Technology company VoxelCloud aim to address this problem and help medical staff to speed up the diagnostic progress.
The premise behind VoxelCloud is an artificial intelligence that can read medical images and provide diagnostic insights. That is not to say that machines such as VoxelCloud will replace medical staff. Instead, VoxelCloud aims to augment the ability of staff and requires them to identify the data required to care for patients and present the data for the machine to analyse.
The technology uses a data-driven algorithm that can help improve the efficiency of interpretation and analysis from medical staff. Aimed at screening for cancer, assessing coronary artery disease and pulmonary disease, the technology can assess various types of medical images such as CT, ultrasound and X-rays.
Currently, the system is being used to diagnose lung cancer in two hospitals in China and is expected to achieve Chinese FDA approval by the end of 2017.
According to market analysis and thanks to the introduction of artificial intelligence machines to the industry, the medical imaging industry is expected to generate a considerable amount of growth in the coming years.
