Dr Andrew Bagshaw

Dr Andrew Bagshaw is Reader in Imaging Neuroscience at the University of Birmingham, Director of the Birmingham University Imaging Centre and co-Director of the Centre for Human Brain Health. His main interest is in developing and applying non-invasive brain imaging methods to questions in clinical and behavioural neuroscience, with a particular emphasis on using EEG-fMRI to understand how the brain is affected by epilepsy and sleep. Dr Bagshaw trained as a physicist at the Universities of Birmingham and Manchester, before moving on to positions at City University, University College London and the Montreal Neurological Institute. He has worked at the University of Birmingham since 2005.
Multimodal Neuroimaging: Methods and Applications of Combined EEG-fMRI
Functional MRI (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) are two of the most widely used techniques for studying human brain function, and are based on changes in haemodynamic and electrophysiological activity respectively. While each provides a crucial window into brain function, combining them has the potential to give more detailed spatiotemporal information. The advantages and disadvantages of combined EEG-fMRI will be discussed, along with
applications in basic and clinical neuroscience.
