Mrs Simerjit Rai

Mrs Rai is a Nurse Consultant in Breast Nurse Consultant – Qualifications include MSc, BSc (hons), Dip HE, RN, NMP, and SCP. She is qualified nurse for over 25 years and for the past 14 years she has worked as a Surgical Care Practitioner with the breast unit at City. Initiatives worked and brought in within the department include day case mastectomy and Patient initiated follow-up programme. She works within the entire patient journey from Rapid access clinic, Pre-admission clinics, Theatres and Follow-up clinics. Work alongside the surgical consultants and Breast care nurses to deliver a high standard of care for breast cancer patients (work contributed to winning awards - HSJ awards and Nursing times). Has worked within research and long term audit projects FHO1, PI for the FHO2 study, SLOANE 1 + 2 projects, Liberate, IRON study as well as current trails within breast currently.
Patient initiated follow-up and surveillance (story so far)
The breast unit at City brought in Patient initiated follow-up in 2005 – the seminar will be about how the programme came about progressed and the where we are currently. Audit data and plans for the future for safe further reduction of clinical follow-up.
