The Christie NHS Foundation Trust Proton Beam Therapy Centre
Tom has worked in radiotherapy for 16 years, specialising in radiotherapy imaging, currently his primary role is managing pre-treatment within the proton therapy department at the Christie. Tom has visited and worked with several centres already providing proton therapy in Europe and America, gaining experience, as such, Tom was involved in the development of the Christie Proton service. As one of the first radiographers recruited he supported varied aspects of the implementation including, equipment procurement, service development, recruitment, training and service provision as well as leading on implementing a series of firsts within radiotherapy including extensive work in development of MRI in radiotherapy implementation in the UK.
Imaging for Proton Therapy planning at The Christie Proton Centre
With the introduction of the UK’s first NHS high energy Proton therapy centre, come new challenges in pre-treatment imaging for these patients. This talk will cover the challenges and approaches of the novel imaging section for Proton Therapy planning at The Christie, discussing, staffing training and technologies in both the CT and MRI.
