Artificial intelligence (AI) has been heralded as one of the leading digital innovations to affect the healthcare industry in the 21st century. Much of this attention has focussed on deductive machine learning systems. Generative AI has only recently gained significant academic, commercial and investor attention. This presentation focusses upon the use of generative AI to create synthetic data for clinical research, data privacy and medical education. It emphasises ethical, legal and practical concerns that require consideration in order for synthetic data to implemented in the real-world, to the benefit of industry and the population.
