Real-time digital pathology imaging is being used to support fine-needle diagnostic cytology services on two hospital ships run by the non-governmental charity 'Mercy Ships'. This organisation provides surgical, ophthalmic and dental services to countries along the coast of West Africa.
Digital telepathology is an ideal solution to the problem of providing a diagnostic cytology service in areas of the world where there is a shortage of cytopathologists. Real-time imaging is particularly applicable where internet bandwidth provision is limited.
This presentation will describe my experiences in this work, with case presentations.
